The tutorial makes use of only the mouse and keyboard. If you have a tablet or are using a touchpad then some sections may be easier or harder than using my suggestions. You'll have to adapt as necessary or find a better tutorial because I honestly can't give you tips on things I haven't used.
Introduction
What's in a Scanlation? For a description of a few terms that I will be using.
Hundreds of scanlation groups exist and their standards vary greatly. How can you figure out if your efforts fit their standards?
One way is to compare it to the stuff that's already out there in the wild by groups you personally acknowledge to have good looking efforts. You can view their font choices, typesetting styles, cleaning efficiency, page settings, and anything else right from their own releases. This is of course highly subjective, so you may come across conflicting information and styles.
Another thing you could do is to read up on multiple scanlation tutorials as they can provide varying perspectives on the same problem you're trying to tackle and can provide alternatives for you to employ. The more you understand about the ways you can tackle a problem the more easily you can judge for yourself on the result of your efforts.
A good way is you to try tossing it to your buddies and seeing what they find since having more people look at something can lead to more discoveries. They'll hopefully be critical enough for you to take notes on.
The most important thing is to not burn yourself out trying to accomplish something you won't find satisfaction out of. This is your free time after all, so you should be getting some sort of sick enjoyment out of it in one way or another.
I will be using the files located in Dynasty Editor Test - Updated 09-16-09.zip as the pages were originally selected to give a demonstration for every basic requirement for editing. I'll write out which page(s) I'm using at the top of each section.
I recommend giving each page a look over and/or an honest try before proceeding just to help you learn better, otherwise I fear you'll be stuck not being able to handle things outside of the scope that the tutorial offers.
