Cleaning
- All pages should be leveled so that whites are white and blacks are black
- Pages should be rotated and aligned so the top of panels (starting from the top of the page) that are suppose to be horizontally level, are so
- White space around the page should not be eliminated
- However, if it seems excessive, ask.
- Advertisements and store recaps along the sides of pages should be cleaned off
- If a bubble contains only punctuation, it should not be cleaned off and replaced
Fonts and SFX
- Our commonly used fonts are:
- Main Text - Wild Words
- Thoughts/Narration Boxes - Zud Juice
- Small Text - akbar/augie
- Notes - Aquillia
- Please ask if you require any of these fonts or any other fonts if you want to be more creative
- These fonts are suggestions, different fonts can be used but need to stick to consistent roles like listed above
- Bold should be used very sparingly
- Italics should never be used
- SFX do not need to be fully replaced, however it is encouraged
- This applies to titles as well
- SFX fonts should match the original SFX style as closely as possible
- If not replacing SFX, a method similar to what Del-Rey employs should be done
- SFX should always have some sort of rotation and/or warp to to clearly show it is not regular text
Typesetting
- Text should be sized not to fill the entire bubble, but also large enough to be readable
- Text should always be center aligned
- Text should be centered in the visible space of the bubble
- In Photoshop, Control + ' turns on the grid, which helps with this
- Avoid placing vertically aligned text or using extreme rotations
- When typesetting a long dash of 2 or more dashes "--" use a single dash and stretch it, or draw it in
- When typesetting a long tilde "~~~" draw it in
- When typesetting hearts, drawn hearts (original or newly drawn) should always be used
- Hearts should be placed like punctuation
- Punctuation should never be on a line by itself
- Breaking up of words should always be avoided if possible
- When breaking up words, the hyphen should always end the first line
- This applies to honorifics as well such as -san or -chan
Exporting and Optimization
- Pages should be resized to a 1200 height pixel minimum
- Keeping PSDs larger than the final size will allow you to easily rotate/crop pages without having to worry about the page size
- Pages should always be exported through "Save for Web" in Photoshop or a similar function in other image editing programs
- Never use just "Save As..."
- Pages should be exported as PNGs if they are black/white or greyscale and JPGs if they are colour
